Questions About Large Home Center Store Kitchen and Bath Cabinets

Some very common questions and concerns revolve around buying kitchen and bath cabinetry from the large home center stores which are what am I buying and is it worth the price. The answer depends on what you are looking for in the cabinetry. If you just want a cheap option to finish a job or update a rental property you are not going to keep for a long period of time then these products might fit your needs just fine. If you are looking for a quality product that represents a good value than you are not likely to find what you are seeking. Here's a short list of issues with thes products:

1.) The cabinet makers do not use quality manufacturers for hardware, hinges and pulls that you find on the cabinets.

2.) Most cabinets use flake board extensively and this board usually goes all the way to the floor. ( When water gets on the floor from spills and cleaning the cabinets will start to fall apart )

3.) The cabinets that are on display in the stores are not what you will receive on your order. ( When asked about this most times it is stated that any difference is an upgrade you needed to order )

4.) Most cabinets that are delivered are glued throughout their construction process.

5.) Most wood appearing surfaces are in fact a vinyl product and a change to wood when available is a major upgrade.

6.) The quality of the delivered cabinetry is not of high quality such as not enough screws or not tighten securely or loose or ill fitted elements.

7.) Read your contract very carefully before signing returns are not readily accepted on such large orders that are much more difficult to resell.

8.) Ordering installation services is very hit and miss where due to quality installers generally have their own established businesses and indepentent contractors are hired by the Home Centers to be their installers. If there is a problem the Home Centers expect the contractors to resolve the problem and if they do not then the second contractor may as bad or worst than the first one and the Home Centers have no clue how to fix the problem. The Home Centers are in essense a referral service that collects a commission on the sale and provides payment to the contractor.
